Hi Sarah, I have been following the story since I heard about it. I am so sorry to go past the venue and see the lights off. I phoned Mitch as I did not have your no. to offer support in any way I can. If you want to talk about any ideas of how we might help you please get in touch. We can supply the venue to you for a fund raising gig to kick start your fight back campaign. Hope to see the lights on soon.

Am I alone in thinking that it's no coincidence that the dog just happens to be in the way of a giant office and hotel development? Somehow i think the council are more interested in what lines their pockets more. A huge commercial development or a small music venue. Even though, i'm assuming, the dog is a listed building and thus wouldn't be able to be developed over anyway. I just think that there wont be too many happy customers at a hotel when their room windows overlook a loud live music venue.

Anyway. I've seen some class bands over the years at the dog. Cage the Elephant, The Enemy, The Cardinals. The Levee Breakers.

It'll be missed. Even if only for the purpose of keeping all the winkle picker wearing indie fannys out of the other pubs in Dundee. I jest, of course....maybe.

CCCALAN HERE AGAIN FROM HAVANASWING, IS NO ONE APART FROM COLIN VEITCH FROM THE WHITEHALL THEATRE INTERESTED IN DOING SOMETHING, I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM ANYONE SINCE WE POSTED OUR LAST COMMENTS, IS THIS JUST GOING TO DIE DOWN AND BE FORGOTTEN? THE DOGHOUSE HAS TO BE REOPENED SOON, OTHERWISE THEY WILL TURN IT INTO OFFICES OR FLATS.

More news from The Courier

Doghouse could be set to re-open

TROUBLED DUNDEE gig venue The Doghouse could re-open within weeks.

Following discussions with owners Punch Taverns, leaseholder Sarah Hill has been given the green light to plan a series of fund-raising concerts—the first of which will take place on April 25 at the Whitehall Theatre.

Dundee scene stalwarts Buck Rogers and The Levee Breakers have already confirmed for what promises to be an emotional night of rock ‘n’ roll excess.

Further shows are also being planned, one of which is likely to take place at Fat Sam’s early next month.

According to Ms Hill, the keys could be handed back by mid-May. She added, “We’ve got 700 tickets to sell for the first show at the Whitehall so we’ll be going all out to try and get the word on the streets.”

Insolvency agents acting for Dundee City Council closed the venue last month due to unpaid rates.

The news also appears to have scotched rumours that the former schoolhouse is to be bulldozed as part of the adjacent casino project.

A Punch Taverns spokesman said that no approaches had been made regarding annexing the site.
